How does this movie convey the message of redemption?
This film conveys the message of redemption in many ways. The Power of Hope drives the prisoners to keep on working, and do as much as they can to redeem themselves. One way Andy redeems himself is through giving the men beer from the second to last day of the job on the rooftop. Andy risks his life to negotiate a deal with Captain Hadley, giving the prisoners a chance to feel human, like free men on their own rooftop drinking a cold beer. Andy also taught basic english to inmates, giving them a chance of education. Redemption, is giving hope to Andy. Soon enough, Andy escapes Shawshank and writes a letter to Red saying “hope is a good thing,” which at first to Red hope seemed to “drive a man insane.” Andy has taught Red to always hope and this helps him to be set free. This is how redemption is created throughout the film.
